2721 NM so far on our way to Tahiti.


Day 9
Amazing how time flies.  We are already on day 9 and heading south out of Hawaii to Tahiti.  After a fantastic time in the Hawaiian Islands now, as Ingrid say, “We are really heading off on our adventure.”  We have both been to Hawaii and although it was really cool to spend time with family and friends in Maui and see the Missouri and Arizona in Pearl Harbor, it now really feels like we are heading off on an adventure.  Neither of us have been to Tahiti and from the pics we have seen it should be fantastic.  This morning we listened to another talk by Dr. Frank Sandstrom, this one on Amelia Earhart. He gave an overview of her entire life and showed how influential she was in promoting women’s rights.  What a strong and courageous woman.  In addition to her attempted round-the-world flight she set many distance and altitude records.  She was remarkable and it is a shame she was lost in the Pacific. He also went into the many theories on where she may have ended up.  It is still a mystery, but recent clues are adding to the body of knowledge and some day we may actually know what happened.  After two days of actually going on land Ingrid and I are looking forward to a few more days at sea.  Each sea day is very relaxing and we can work out, walk on the deck and enjoy the great meals provided on the Pacific Princess.

    If you are going to Rangiroa, it was our favorite snorkeling place in the world, so far.

    When Jules Verne originally wrote “Around the World in 80 Days” in the Late 1800s, he left England and traveled mostly in an easterly direction. Your trip is taking a westerly route. His trip went through the Suez Canal and yours is going through the Panama Canal. The last lesson learned in the book was that you gain a day going west to east. Is your trip really taking 112 days (one extra day)? Have fun on the adventure.

    You guys are probably sailing right past where Amelia Earhart's plane was last seen! You know how much I love her. What were some of the theories he put forth!?! Glad you guys are having so much fun - I think it's funny that everyone you talked to about the cruise was so worried about all those days at sea - and now those seem to be your favorite days! Maybe on day 100 you'll feel differently... ;) Love you and miss you!

Day 6 – I’m not sure we are ready to face our first non-sea day tomorrow.   We are having a wonderful time on the sea days.   We have fallen into a lovely routine of waking late, working out, walking on the deck in beautiful 70 degree weather then meeting Jan and George for the Elite club snacks at 6:00 PM, going to the show at 6:30 PM and then going to the late dinner with our outstanding waiter Victor from Mexico.   Victor has been a great waiter and really helps make the dinners fun. Day 45 of 111 – Arrived in Port Kelang at 7:00 AM and spent the day around Kuala Lumpur

Wow – what an amazing day in Kuala Lumpur. Took a 2 hour ride from our ship with 14 of our cruise friends in a privately-hired van to the Batu Caves north of Kuala Lumpur (KL).   At the top of 272 steps beside a GIANT Golden Statue you will find a monstrous cave that has been turned into a Buddhist monastery. Worth the climb to see inside this beautiful and unique monastery.   There were monks worshiping and you had to take your shoes off to walk into the holy parts and just hope the numerous monkeys that scampered freely in and out of the caves didn’t run off with your shoes.   Our guide, a green-card holding Malaysian with 3 kids, one brain surgeon in LA and two airline pilots, said he had already lost two hats to the monkeys. I hope I get a chance to post some pics. Then it was on to KL and the Petronas Twin Towers. The tour up the towers took you to the crossing bridge at the 43rd floor and you could gaze both up and down while walking between the towers.  ...
